Martin Sheen

Martin Sheen has anchored two masterpieces a quarter-century apart: the drifting killer of Terrence Malick's 'Badlands' (1973) and Captain Willard, journeying upriver through Coppola's 'Apocalypse Now' (1979), a shoot so punishing it nearly killed him. Born Ramón Estévez in Dayton, Ohio, in 1940, father of Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen, he found a second peak as President Josiah Bartlet, the idealist-in-chief of 'The West Wing' (1999-2006). Later work includes 'The Departed' (2006) and 'Grace and Frankie' (2015-2022). A lifelong activist arrested dozens of times at protests, he brings the same moral conviction to his roles.
