Born in Guildford, England in 1941, David Hemmings became the face of Swinging London after starring as the fashion photographer in Michelangelo Antonioni's Blow-Up (1966). He followed with visible roles in Camelot (1967) and Barbarella (1968), then reinvented himself in middle age as a heavyset character actor in Gladiator (2000) and Gangs of New York (2002). He also directed episodic television throughout the eighties. Sharp, ironic and often self-deprecating, he became one of British cinema's more unusual second acts. Read more
