Corey Yuen, born in Hong Kong in 1951, was one of the great action directors and fight choreographers of Hong Kong and world cinema. A classmate of Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung at the China Drama Academy opera school, he made his name choreographing and directing kung fu films in the eighties, including Ng See-yuen breakthroughs and the Jet Li vehicle Fong Sai-yuk (1993). He moved into Hollywood with Romeo Must Die (2000), The Transporter (2002) and DOA: Dead or Alive (2006), designing action for many of Jet Li's American films along the way. Until his death in 2022 he remained a benchmark for bruising, gravity-defying combat staging.
