Chad Stahelski is an American director born in Palmer, Massachusetts, a former stuntman and stunt coordinator who became one of the most influential action directors of his generation. John Wick, following a retired assassin drawn back into violence after the killing of his dog, redefined the modern action film through its meticulously choreographed, balletic gun-fu combat sequences and richly imagined criminal underworld mythology, launching an enormously successful franchise. Stahelski continued directing the increasingly elaborate sequels, each expanding the franchise's stylized world-building and raising the technical bar for hand-to-hand and gunplay choreography in mainstream action cinema. Drawing directly on his background as a stuntman, Stahelski's emphasis on sustained wide shots showcasing genuine physical choreography, rather than rapid editing to disguise limited stunt work, has made him one of the most influential figures in reshaping contemporary action filmmaking.
