Calvin Tuteao is a screen veteran of the old school with the unglamorous consistency that long careers are made of. The film 'Once Were Warriors' accounts for more of the public profile than anything else does. 'The Dead Lands' belongs on any short list of his work. He has worked in drama more often than in any other register. Neither the cinema nor the television half of the career can be called the side project.
