犹太少年斯坦（克雷蒙•史鲍尼 Clement Sibony 饰）整天无所事事，对家族生意——经营肉店更是毫无兴趣，他不顾家人和外公的反对，早早就辍了学。虽然对于未来斯坦也很迷茫，不过他铁定了心不会继承外公的事业。好友的意外身亡让斯坦猛然醒悟，他决心开始为自己的未来奋斗。斯坦喜欢当演员，但家人都极力反对，他只好从家里搬了出来，在一所租来小房子里自学表演。斯坦经过努力，终于考取了演艺学校，但是家里的变故又让斯坦大受打击……
