Yuen Wah, born in Hong Kong in 1950, trained from childhood at the Peking Opera School as one of the Seven Little Fortunes, alongside Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. He built a long career as a stuntman and body double, memorably for Bruce Lee on Enter the Dragon (1973), before stepping in front of the camera as a versatile character actor. He played villains in Eastern Condors (1987) and God of Gamblers Return (1994), and reached global audiences as the chain-smoking Landlord opposite Yuen Qiu in Stephen Chows Kung Fu Hustle (2004), a role widely considered one of the great comic supporting turns of the era. Nimble even in his seventies, he remains a treasured elder of Hong Kong action cinema.
