Born in Edmonton in 1938, Tommy Chong is a Canadian actor, comedian and musician best known as one half of Cheech and Chong. Together with Cheech Marin he wrote and starred in Up in Smoke (1978), the counterculture stoner comedy that launched the duo's film franchise, and its follow-ups such as Nice Dreams (1981). Later generations rediscovered him as the ageless hippie Leo on the sitcom That '70s Show. Off screen his life has included a real prison sentence for selling paraphernalia — a piece of biography that has become inseparable from his stoner-elder public persona.
