AMC's anthology begins with a doomed-expedition premise — season one dramatizes the real 1845 Franklin expedition trapped in Arctic ice, stalked by a supernatural predator as starvation and mutiny set in — before season two, 'The Terror: Infamy', shifts to a Japanese-American internment camp during World War II. Derek Mio leads the second season as a young man confronting a vengeful spirit while his community endures forced relocation, with Naoko Mori and Kiki Sukezane deepening the show's ghost-story mechanics with generational trauma. Creators David Kajganich, Max Borenstein and Alexander Woo use horror less as spectacle than as a lens on historical atrocity, letting dread accumulate slowly rather than relying on jump scares. It's prestige horror that treats its historical settings with real gravity.
