Marty Byrde is a mild-mannered Chicago financial adviser whose secret side business laundering money for a Mexican cartel unravels violently, forcing him to move his family to the Missouri Ozarks to survive. Promising a drug lord he can wash hundreds of millions through the lakeside region's economy, Marty draws his wife and children ever deeper into a criminal underworld of local crime clans, cartel enforcers, and watchful FBI agents. As the Byrdes adapt with chilling ingenuity, the line between victim and mastermind dissolves, especially for a wife discovering her own ruthlessness. Bleak, tense, and moodily beautiful, it's a slow-tightening crime saga about a family corrupted by the very schemes keeping them alive.
