Yeon Sang-ho, the director behind 'Train to Busan', brings the same apocalyptic dread to television with a premise that turns divine judgment into public spectacle: monstrous entities appear without warning to drag condemned souls to a brutal death, and cameras capture every second of it. Out of the ensuing panic rises a religious movement, New Truth, that reframes the massacres as righteous punishment and seizes control of a terrified public. Kim Hyun-joo's steely detective anchors a story less interested in the monsters than in the cult that weaponizes them. 'Hellbound' is horror as social critique, asking what a society does when it decides some deaths are deserved.
