Jefferson Pierce hung up his superhero identity years ago to run a New Orleans charter school, but escalating gang violence against his students and his own daughters forces him back into the electrically-charged suit of Black Lightning. Cress Williams plays Pierce with a weary, principal's gravity that makes his double life feel genuinely costly, while Nafessa Williams and Christine Adams, as daughters Anissa and Lynn, gradually get pulled into the family's growing arsenal of powers. Set apart from the CW's brighter Arrowverse shows, the series roots its action in community, legacy, and the real toll of urban violence. It's a superhero drama that treats its Black neighborhood as more than a backdrop.
