Rossano Brazzi

Rossano Brazzi, born in Bologna in 1916, was one of the great Italian romantic leads of postwar international cinema. After a busy career in wartime Italian pictures he crossed over to Hollywood, gaining fame opposite Katharine Hepburn in David Lean s Summertime (1955) and stealing hearts as Emile de Becque in the film of South Pacific (1958). He also appeared in The Barefoot Contessa (1954) and Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), embodying the elegant continental gentleman that midcentury audiences adored. Brazzi worked steadily across four decades in Italy and America, a symbol of a certain golden-age screen romance.
