Born in Avoca, Iowa in 1938, Richard Beymer is best remembered as Tony in Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins's Oscar-winning West Side Story (1961), the role that made him a teenage star. He also played Peter van Daan in George Stevens's The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) and appeared in The Longest Day (1962). Decades later he re-emerged as the businessman Benjamin Horne on David Lynch's Twin Peaks (1990 to 1991) and returned to the character in the 2017 revival.
