The Anglo-Australian actor Peter Finch built a solid career in British cinema before delivering the performance for which he will always be remembered. After training in Australia and establishing himself in the United Kingdom, he portrayed tormented characters with enormous sensitivity, such as the homosexual doctor in 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' (1971). His peak came with the deranged anchorman Howard Beale in 'Network' (1976), whose cry of rage won him, already deceased, the Oscar for Best Actor, making him the first performer to achieve it posthumously. He also amassed five BAFTA Awards over the course of his career. An actor of great intensity and emotional truth, he died of a heart attack in 1977, shortly before receiving his most famous award.
