Mei Lee, a diligent thirteen-year-old girl in early-2000s Toronto, lives torn between obedience to a demanding mother and a clique of friends obsessed with a boy band. Everything gets complicated when she discovers that, thanks to an old family inheritance, she transforms into a giant red panda whenever her emotions run wild. Amid the blushes of adolescence, tensions with her mother and a craving for independence, Mei must decide whether to tame that inner beast or embrace it as part of herself. A Pixar animated comedy, tender and bursting with energy, that uses fantasy as a luminous metaphor for puberty and pulling away from one's parents.
