Robert De Niro plays an aging master thief hoping to retire after one last score, only to be talked into a Montreal heist by a hotheaded young protégé played by Edward Norton. Marlon Brando, in one of his final roles, adds gravitas as the fence orchestrating the job, and the film leans on the old-pro chemistry between its leads rather than elaborate set pieces. Frank Oz directs a low-key, character-driven heist picture that trades flash for the pleasure of watching three generations of screen legends size each other up.
