Directed by Irwin Winkler, it tapped into mid-1990s anxieties about the emerging internet and digital identity theft. Dated now and never especially plausible, it was a solid hit on Bullock's rising-star appeal. A serviceable paranoia thriller, more interesting as a time capsule than as suspense.
