In a Pennsylvania steel town, three young friends share one last wedding and hunting trip before shipping out to Vietnam, where captivity and a brutal game of Russian roulette shatter the men they were. Home offers no refuge, only the slow reckoning with everything the war took from them. Michael Cimino's sprawling epic moves from working-class ritual to unbearable trauma with harrowing patience, refusing easy catharsis. Anchored by Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep, it stands as one of the defining American films about the wounds a generation carried back from war.
