Jackie Chan plays a bumbling Imperial guard who travels to the American Old West to rescue a kidnapped Chinese princess, teaming up reluctantly with a fast-talking outlaw, played by Owen Wilson, along the way. Tom Dey's East-meets-West buddy comedy pairs Chan's acrobatic martial-arts choreography with Wilson's laid-back improvisational riffing to surprisingly winning effect. A sleeper box-office hit, it helped further establish Chan as a genuine Hollywood leading man beyond his Hong Kong action pedigree and spawned a sequel.
