Jack Black stars as a shallow bachelor who, after being hypnotized by self-help guru Tony Robbins to see only inner beauty, falls hard for a woman he perceives as stunning but who is, unbeknownst to him, significantly overweight and unconventionally attractive by his old standards, played by Gwyneth Paltrow in a fat suit. The Farrelly Brothers wrap their trademark gross-out comedy around a surprisingly earnest message about superficiality and self-worth, though the film's central premise and prosthetic makeup have aged uncomfortably by contemporary standards. A box-office hit at the time, its reputation has cooled considerably since.
