Matt Damon plays Mike McDermott, a gifted poker player trying to leave the underground game behind for law school, who gets pulled back in when his just-released friend 'Worm' (Edward Norton) racks up dangerous debts to a ruthless Russian gangster known as Teddy KGB (John Malkovich). Mike's return to high-stakes poker becomes both a means of bailing Worm out and a reckoning with his own inability to walk away from the game.
