Matt Damon plays Mike McDermott, a gifted poker player trying to leave the underground game behind for law school, who gets pulled back in when his just-released friend 'Worm' (Edward Norton) racks up dangerous debts to a ruthless Russian gangster known as Teddy KGB (John Malkovich). Mike's return to high-stakes poker becomes both a means of bailing Worm out and a reckoning with his own inability to walk away from the game. Malkovich's scenery-chewing performance as Teddy KGB became iconic among poker enthusiasts, and the film is widely credited with helping fuel the 2000s poker boom. It's regarded as one of the definitive modern poker movies.
