This 2002 remake of the 1975 classic transplants the violent sport of Rollerball to Central Asia, where athletes compete in a brutal hybrid game for a corrupt promoter who secretly manipulates the action for maximum violence and ratings. When two American players discover their lives are being endangered for profit and try to quit, they find that the only way out may be through even more dangerous territory. A high-energy action film that sacrifices its predecessor's social commentary for straightforward thrills.
