Rising from the Bronx to the middleweight championship, boxer Jake LaMotta fights with a savage fury that makes him unbeatable in the ring and unbearable outside it, as paranoia and jealousy poison his marriage and estrange his devoted brother. His self-destruction proves as relentless as his punches. Martin Scorsese films this brutal portrait in luminous black and white, with Robert De Niro's ferocious, physically transformative performance at its core, a raw and operatic study of masculinity, rage and self-loathing widely regarded as one of the greatest American films ever made.
