A perpetually stoned process server witnesses a corrupt cop and a drug lord commit murder, and when he flees he drops a rare strain of weed that leads the killers straight to him and his equally hapless dealer. What begins as panic curdles into an unlikely bromance as the two potheads stumble through shootouts and mayhem. David Gordon Green directs a Judd Apatow production that fuses stoner comedy with the beats of a violent action buddy movie. Ramshackle and affectionate, powered by Seth Rogen and a scene-stealing James Franco, it finds real sweetness beneath the smoke and gunfire.
