In a remote town in the frozen north, a selfish, spoiled postman is banished by his father to the most inhospitable, hostile village imaginable, where no one wants to send letters. His desperation to meet the quota that will let him return home leads him to Klaus, a solitary, mysterious toymaker who lives apart in the forest. From their unexpected friendship springs a chain of generosity that begins to transform that bitter place and to sow the origin of an endearing legend.
