On the brink of ruin one Christmas Eve, a good-hearted small-town man who spent his whole life sacrificing his dreams for others stands on a bridge, convinced the world would be better had he never been born. An apron-wearing guardian angel grants that terrible wish, showing him a town twisted dark by his absence. Frank Capra's beloved fable weaves warmth, despair and hard-won grace into one of cinema's most enduring emotional experiences, buoyed by James Stewart's raw, tender performance. Beneath its holiday glow runs a genuinely bleak understanding of desperation, which is precisely what makes its final rush of joy so overwhelming.
