Cecilia, a devout American novice, travels to a remote and beautiful convent in the Italian countryside to take her vows and dedicate her life to God. The initially warm welcome soon curdles: she discovers unsettling secrets behind the walls, miracles that do not add up and an inexplicable pregnancy that the community celebrates with a fervor bordering on the sinister. Trapped in a place from which she cannot escape, she realizes her vocation is in fact a trap orchestrated for horrifying ends. Starring Sydney Sweeney, it is religious horror of oppressive atmosphere and mounting cruelty. A gothic nightmare about fanaticism and the control of the female body.
