A hushed, minimalist science-fiction romance from director Drake Doremus. In a sterile future society where all emotion has been engineered out of humanity, two workers (Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart) begin to feel forbidden desire when a resurgent emotional disease sweeps their world. The design is icy and beautiful, the performances restrained. Owing a heavy debt to '1984' and 'THX 1138', it divided viewers as gorgeous but emotionally chilly, and it barely registered commercially.
