In 2159, humanity is split into two worlds: the rich inhabit Elysium, an idyllic space station with technology able to cure any illness, while everyone else is crammed onto a ravaged, overpopulated Earth controlled by drones and police robots. Max, an ex-convict working on an assembly line, suffers an accident that leaves him only days to live and just one hope of salvation: reaching Elysium. To get there he agrees to be fitted with an exoskeleton and steal critical data, a heist that puts him in the crosshairs of the ruthless Secretary Rhodes and her brutal field agent. Neill Blomkamp delivers a grimy, physical science-fiction thriller, with social inequality and healthcare as its political backdrop.
