Yuen Woo-ping directed this kung fu comedy that made Jackie Chan a star, casting him as a young, mischievous Wong Fei-hung forced to train under a brutal master of the 'drunken boxing' style. The film's blend of intricate, inventive fight choreography and physical comedy redefined the martial arts genre and moved it away from grim seriousness. Hugely influential and still exhilarating, it remains a landmark of Hong Kong cinema and one of Chan's essential early triumphs.
