'Daylight' is a straightforward 1990s disaster thriller starring Sylvester Stallone as a disgraced former emergency official who leads a group of survivors trapped by an explosion inside a collapsing tunnel beneath the Hudson River. Racing rising water, fire and crumbling concrete, he must guide them to safety. Competent effects and Stallone's earnest everyman heroics carry a formulaic script. Modestly received, it delivers exactly the mid-budget peril-and-rescue spectacle audiences expected, an efficient if unmemorable entry in the decade's cycle of catastrophe movies.
