A pack of ravenous, porcupine-like aliens called Crites escapes from an intergalactic prison and crash-lands on a Kansas farm, where they proceed to devour everything in their path while two shapeshifting bounty hunters pursue them to Earth. The film balances genuine creature-feature scares with a wicked streak of dark comedy, as the Brown family must defend their homestead against the ever-growing, ever-hungrier furballs. Released in the shadow of 'Gremlins,' it carves out its own niche with a more rural, B-movie charm and practical effects that give the Crites real personality. A fun, unpretentious 1980s horror-comedy with cult staying power.
