Rowan Atkinson reprises his beloved sketch-show character as the childlike, near-silent Mr. Bean, an incompetent museum watchman mistakenly sent to Los Angeles to represent his gallery at the unveiling of a priceless painting he's accidentally already damaged. The film adapts Atkinson's largely wordless physical comedy to feature length, stretching his gift for visual mishap and deadpan mugging across a fish-out-of-water American setting. A substantial international hit, especially outside English-speaking markets where the character's near-total lack of dialogue translated effortlessly, it cemented Bean as a genuine global comedy export.
