Michael Maloney
Known for
Michael Maloney, born in Bury St Edmunds in 1957, is one of the most reliable classical actors of his English generation, at ease with Shakespeare in both stage and film. He is best remembered for his work with Kenneth Branagh, playing Dauphin in Henry V (1989) and Laertes in the four-hour Hamlet (1996), and for the fine In the Bleak Midwinter (1995). He also brought quiet warmth to Anthony Minghella's Truly Madly Deeply (1990) opposite Juliet Stevenson. Away from Shakespeare he has anchored countless BBC dramas and appeared in prestige pieces such as Belle (2013), always the actor a director calls when a scene needs texture rather than fireworks.
