15世紀、フランスの王位継承をめぐって、フランスとイギリスが血で血を洗う争いの時代。若きジャンヌ・ダルクは、「フランスを救え」と言う神の声に導かれてフランス王の軍隊を率いていた。神、愛、罪、福音と祈りを説くジャンヌだが、その力に畏怖と疑心を持った味方の軍内部から反発が生じる。やがてジャンヌはイギリス側に捕らえられ、教会によって異端審問にかけられる。抑圧と支配の濃密な論理で迫る「雄弁」な男たちを相手に、反駁の叫びと沈黙で応じるジャンヌ。告発に屈せず、自らの霊性と使命に忠実であり続ける。
