Quando Joan Boothe accompagna il marito-reporter David a Las Vegas, inizia a giocare d'azzardo per passare il tempo mentre lui sta scrivendo un articolo. Incoraggiata dal direttore del casinò, diventa dipendente dal gioco d'azzardo, al punto da "prendere in prestito" i soldi delle spese di David per perseguire la sua dipendenza.
