Holly Hunter

Holly Hunter won the Oscar for a performance without a single spoken line: the mute pianist Ada in 'The Piano' (1993). The Georgia-born actress had already defined a certain wired Southern intensity in 'Raising Arizona' (1987) and as the brilliant, weeping producer of 'Broadcast News' (1987), which brought the first of her four Oscar nominations. Later generations know her voice best as Elastigirl in 'The Incredibles' (2004) and its sequel (2018), and she cut a formidable figure in 'Thirteen' (2003) and 'Succession' (2018). Coiled energy in a small frame has always been her trademark.
