Born in Hong Kong in 1981, Gillian Chung rose to fame as half of the Cantopop duo Twins alongside Charlene Choi. She translated that stardom to film in Beyond Our Ken (2004) by Pang Ho-cheung and the martial arts fantasy The Twins Effect (2003). She showed comic timing in Wilson Yip's action-farce House of Fury (2005). She has since worked steadily on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, in mainland productions and TVB dramas, and returned to concerts with Twins. She reads as warmer and more grounded than her early idol image suggested.
