Marion Dougherty (February 9, 1923 – December 4, 2011) was an American casting director, credited with revolutionizing the role from a clerical task to a creative artform. Known as a pioneer of "independent" casting, she famously championed actors based on their unique character and talent rather than conventional "types" or studio contracts.
