Emerald Fennell

Emerald Fennell is an English director born in Hammersmith, London, celebrated for darkly comic, visually stylish films examining sexual politics and class privilege. Promising Young Woman, her remarkable feature debut following a woman exacting elaborate revenge against predatory men in the wake of her friend's assault, won her the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and established her taste for candy-colored visual style wrapped around genuinely disturbing subject matter. Saltburn, a lurid, class-conscious thriller following a working-class student's obsessive infiltration of a wealthy family's aristocratic estate, extended her fascination with desire, class resentment, and moral transgression rendered through opulent, unsettling visual excess. Fennell's combination of glossy visual style with dark, provocative examination of privilege and sexual power has made her one of the most distinctive new voices in contemporary British cinema.
