Eleanor Audley

An American actress with a commanding voice that made her one of Disney's great animated villains. She provided the voice and inspiration for Lady Tremaine, the wicked stepmother in 'Cinderella' (1950), and the sinister fairy Maleficent in 'Sleeping Beauty' (1959), two of the studio's most memorable antagonists. She also worked steadily in early television, including 'Green Acres' and 'My Three Sons'. Her regal, icy diction gave those characters their lasting menace. She died in 1991, remembered as the American actress behind some of animation's most indelible villains.
