David Niven

David Niven was a British actor and writer, possessed of a wit and elegance that embodied the ideal of the English gentleman on screen. Born in London in 1910, he won the Best Actor Oscar for 'Separate Tables' (1958) and starred in titles as varied as 'Around the World in 80 Days' (1956) and 'The Guns of Navarone' (1961). He became worldwide popular as the jewel thief in 'The Pink Panther' (1963). His register mixed sophisticated comedy, poise and an unmistakable self-deprecating charm. He was also a brilliant memoirist, whose books about Hollywood became bestsellers. He died in 1983.

James David Graham Niven (1 March 1910 – 29 July 1983), known as David Niven, was a British actor and novelist, best known for his roles as Phileas Fogg in Around the World in 80 Days and Sir Charles Lytton, a.k.a. "the Phantom", in The Pink Panther. He was awarded the 1958 Academy Award for Best Actor in Separate Tables.
