Born in Small Heath, Birmingham in 1965, David Harewood came out of RADA and became the first Black actor to play Othello at the National Theatre, in 1997. On screen he had his breakthrough as CIA counter-terror chief David Estes in Homeland (2011), then found a second global following as Hank Henshaw/J'onn J'onzz in Supergirl (2015) and across the Arrowverse. Between them he appeared in Blood Diamond (2006), The Night Manager (2016) and The Wife (2017). He is also a documentary maker for the BBC on race and mental health. A solid, versatile leading and supporting man of British screen and stage.
