Curd Jürgens

Curd Jürgens was a German-Austrian actor born in Solln, near Munich, in 1915, and one of the great international leading men of postwar European cinema. He became a European star with Helmut Käutner The Devil General (1955), which won him a Silver Bear at Berlin, and Roger Vadim And God Created Woman (1956) opposite Brigitte Bardot. He moved fluently between prestige productions and international spectacle in The Longest Day (1962) and, near the end of his career, played the Bond villain Karl Stromberg in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). Suave and imposing, he embodied the cosmopolitan European leading man until his death in 1982.
