A French actor, director and screenwriter, Artus de Penguern was a fixture of French comedy with a gift for eccentric, melancholy characters. The Neuilly-born performer is fondly remembered as Hipolito, the frustrated failed writer, in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 'Amélie' (2001), and appeared across many French films and television series. He also wrote and directed his own features, including 'Grégoire Moulin contre l'humanité'. Wry and offbeat, he specialised in wistful, comically hapless figures. He died in 2013 at fifty-six. He is a French actor and filmmaker best known internationally for his small but memorable role in one of France's most beloved films.
