Art Carney was an American actor and comedian who managed to move from television glory to an unexpected cinematic triumph in full maturity. He rose to fame as the endearing Ed Norton in the legendary comedy 'The Honeymooners', a role that earned him part of his six Emmy Awards. At 55 he surprised Hollywood by winning the Oscar for Best Actor for 'Harry and Tonto' (1974), in which he played an old man crossing the country with his cat. He then strung together memorable roles in 'The Late Show' (1977), 'Going in Style' (1979) and 'Last Action Hero' (1993). Possessed of a melancholic humor and an immense warmth, he mastered like no one the balance between physical comedy and moving tenderness.
